Nosara, a princess of exceptional beauty and daughter of Nicoa, the great Chorotega chief, was admired for her grace and kindness. Among those captivated by her was Curime, a young man known for his prowess in the traditional ball game and his strength as both a hunter and farmer.
Their love blossomed during the Sun and Corn Festivals in Nicoya. But their happiness was challenged by Nacaome, a warrior from Chira Island, who also sought Nosara’s hand.
Despite Nacaome’s lavish gifts and bold advances, Nosara’s heart belonged solely to Curime. Enraged by rejection, Nacaome challenged Curime to a decisive ball game—the victor would win Nosara’s hand, and the loser would leave the land forever.
⚔️ Betrayal and Tragedy
The community gathered for the match, filled with anticipation. Though Curime played skillfully and with honor, Nacaome resorted to deceit, striking Curime in a moment of fury and desperation.
Curime died from his injuries. Overcome with grief and unwilling to live without him, Nosara took her own life, choosing to be with Curime in the afterlife.
